January 21, Lahore
I’m loving the news from Kolkata. Mara and Himanshu are working with a group of girls over a few days. Today they had their first workshop in Kolkata. The expected initial chaos/the settling into the making/the harvesting of the fruit. The girls really enjoyed the session and are excited for more. They will be showing their work to parents and friends at the end of three days. Everyone seems excited.
The idea of working with one group over several days ignites my imagination. I’ve been here in Lahore for 6 weeks now so I’ve worked with a lot of kids already. I really want to work with a group for a longer duration. I pitch my idea to the headmistress at Imperial School. She thinks its doable. So today, at the school, we set up a “zine-club” where i shall sit for two hours everyday for the next ten days in the room next to the library. The kids can walk in and do some art with me and make zines if they wish. Today I had twelve kids from 8 to 14 years old. They all want to come back tomorrow. One boy wants to bring a friend along. I can only have so many kids. We made “My Name” zines.
